By incorporating your family's likes and dislikes, sticking to a budget and pre-decided list and taking into consideration the Health factor, you can achieve the target of Healthy Shopping. Here are some of the tips that I feel are helpful :
- Focus on variety, amount, and nutrition. Prefer natural items than artificial ones.
- Choose right grocery stores where food items are grouped based on their nature. (Fruits/vegetables at one place, frozen items at one place, processed ones at a separate section.) This helps in skipping the sections that are unhealthy like processed food or bakery items.
- Bring a list to store and stick to it! Don't overbuy food items. Don't buy them just because you heard about them. And don't get lured by discounts on junk items.
- Check the Nutrition facts and ingredient list written on the packets. This will guide in making healthy choices.
- Enjoy the food shopping. Explore your local vegetable and fruit market for fresh and in-season items. Spend some time in reading and understanding the Nutrition facts of packet items and sort them accordingly.
- And most importantly start with small changes to build healthier eating styles in long run.
I know many people don't agree with me but grocery shopping is truly an art form and it takes practice to get just right. Ultimately, you need to choose items you like to eat and items that give you health benefits so you are not tempted to pick up takeaways or junk food. And doing such shopping is a mindful activity.

Grocery shopping is also an art. If you can buy the best available with the best budget, then you have it. A list always helps and then to start introducing small portions of changes to the diet.
