The republic day, the second most important proud national festival is just around the corner. Schools that are open in fog and cold like this, have started to prepare for a cultural event and so is the going-on-job at several other institutions that are going to call for an event on this red-letter day. Among all these preparations, there came an important advisory from the government that urges people not to use national flags that are made of plastic.
We all know how necessary it is to forsake the use of plastic at every level possible to comfort our already endangered mother nature. But then, when it comes to a national event, we see the use of national flags made of plastic everywhere. At least on signals and outside schools, there are bundles of plastic flags bought and sold around a national holiday. The culture of event decoration also makes us notice plastic flags used for decoration purpose at malls, parks, schools etc. Of course, plastic flags cost less than paper or cloth flags and help the users a lot if it rains on the day of the event. At least on 15 th August, it is most likely to rain and chances remain for 26 January too to get drenched under the sky's shower.
But the harms are far more costly than paying a bit more for a paper or cloth made the national flag. Plastic is not biodegradable which makes these flags collect like garbage at the next day after its use. These are mostly going to hurt the soil and if burnt along with other waste, they will cause even more harm to the environment.
Not only this, as these flags are not biodegradable, their collection as a waste after the use seriously harms the respect towards our national flag. In case you are unaware, let me tell you that our country also has a law named as the Prevention of Insults of National Honour Act enforced since 1971, section 2 of which provides for punishment for disrespectful treatment of our national flag in given ways. The punishment includes imprisonment up to three years with or without fine.
So it is the duty of all of us to ensure respect for our national flag all through the year at the same time doing our necessary bit towards our environment too. Don't sell or buy flags made of plastic and make others also aware towards this concern. Apart from those super busy to take five minutes out of their schedule, rest of you take time to make a flag with paper all yourself. You can be even more creative in making your flag by using ribbons, old wedding cards etc. And do share your creative flag's picture and making with others also.
Wishing you all very proud Republic Day of India in advance.
cant agree more we need yo be cautious about environment and celebrations like these are best way to create awareness and also teaching the young ones about a more environment friendly way to celebrate,
ReplyDeleteI hope people remember to make small changes to keep our environment clean. Agree even the celebrations can be eco friendly.
