Haath Se Haath Milaa was I believe the first on-location reality Hindi television show that I have watched. Though I don’t remember the exact day and time when it was telecasted, I remember the pink bus of girls and blue bus of boys and the worth applause anchoring of Daman and Sugandha on the show. I also remember the beginning rhymes of Hath Se Hath Mila of the show and I very well remember the song of Mohit Chauhan’s melody hum jo chale tum bhi chalo sath..with which the show used to wind up.
I would not be surprised if you say you have not watched or even heard of this tv show ever. Obviously, because the show was telecasted on Doordarshan only any of us hardly prefer to watch. It was on a day when we were on a visit to some of our relatives where there was no cable connection at that time when we first got see Haath Se Haath Milaa. And we continued to the other episodes from next week at our place also.
The show was basically produced by BBC world service trust in coordination with Indian National AIDS Control Organization and dedicated work of the NGO wing of BBCWST. The pubcaster was, thus, Prasar Bharti.
The show was targeting mainly village people who were less educated at least in matters of safe sex and interacting with HIV positive people. Despite being a show aimed at spreading Aids awareness it was a whole fun. The anchors used to visit different places and interact with different people. They used to organize small plays, shows and games to involve people and simultaneously provide necessary information related to HIV and AIDS.
There were two seasons of the show telecasted. And the few episodes I got to watch were selecting people from different places and taking them on a road trip in buses equipped with good amenities. Both girls and boys were selected and they were shows starting their journey by leaving home with the female and male anchor in pink and blue bus respectively. During the journey, they all used to have a lot of fun added with due exchange of thoughts over how to prevent Aids and how to treat people who are HIV positive.
Similar to the reality shows of this time, there were also celebrities coming on that show though they were not becoming part of the show for promoting their films. Despite, the celebrities also used to take part in spreading awareness. I remember Shilpa Shetty, Sunil Shetty and Salman Khan on the show.
On this World AIDS awareness day, I am talking about Haath Se Haath Milaa as I feel it was one of the best reality shows I have watched certainly because of the entertainment it was serving at the same time also serving for a significant social cause.
Do you remember the song that Silk Route wrote with the caste and it's title is "lau" (meaning: flame)? I wish I could hear that song one more time but i haven't found it anywhere.
