Yes, you read it right! Superstar Rajinikanth had adopted his father Mr. Kalyana Sundaram 5 years back.
When I shared this fact with one of my office mates, he joked and said: “Ab wo 'the great Rajinikanth' hai.. wo bachche nhi, direct Papa adopt kar skta hai..” But jokes apart, this is a beautiful truth that touched me till deep.
We all know, other than his movie zing and bang, actor Rajinikanth is also famous for his simplicity and humbleness. Through his magnificent acts, he took a completely new gesture when he adopted Mr. Kalyana Sundaram as his father. Mr. Sundaram is himself an epitome of selflessness and humanity. I would call him the finest example of simple living and high thinking.
If you look at his picture, he looks like an average man. But what a soul he is! He has dedicated his entire life to the welfare of poor and needy.
A gold medalist in library science, and an MA in literature and history, Mr. Kalyana Sundaram, is a philanthropist, who prefers to perform his noble deeds quite silently. Mr. Kalyana Sundaram is a social worker from Tamil Nadu, and is involved in selfless services for orphans and needy people. He worked as a Librarian for 30 years and donated his entire salary for helping others. So how he managed to meet his own needs for living? Well, the noble soul also worked in a hotel to get some money to meet his both ends. Mr. Sundaram also donated a sum of Rs. 1 lakh too, that he had received as salary arrears. The district collector of Tamil Nadu had received this amount from Mr. Sundaram who made this charity for orphans.
The representer of the best of humanity, Mr. Kalyan Sundaram, is the first person in the world to spend his earnings from entire life for the social cause. The man of extraordinary living and generosity has been awarded by the UNO as one of the Outstanding People of the 20th Century. He has also received a number of other national and international awards. These awards have brought Mr. Sundaram more than 30 crors of cash, the entire of which he has used for the charity purpose.
The end of his working life could not bring his magnanimity to an end. After getting retired from services, in 1998, Mr. Kalyanasundaram decided to expand his social services through 'Paalam', that is the NGO he is running. This NGO facilitates education to poor children, medical attention to the poor, runs blood donation camps and provides free counseling to the needy.
Though, Mr. Kalyansundaram remained a bachelor for life and served to many who would look at him as father, he is adopted by another noble soul as his father. Superstar Rajini is also a known do-gooder and I believe this is what makes him the perfect son of his adopted father. Like Mr. Sundaram, Rajanikath also does most of his social work and charity without making any publicity of it. I am sure that it was a move caused by the philanthropic Rajanikath that he adopted Mr. Kalyana Sundaram as his father.
A father-son relation like that of Rajanikath and Mr. Kalyansundaram is a peculiar and adorable one in the world. Mr. Palam Kalyansundaram is one of the few fathers who are a true inspiration for the society. Mr. Kalyana Sundaram, I feel, is the richest man in this world who has donated his lifetime earnings for the betterment of people. When asked about his inspiration, Mr. Kalyana Sundaram said his mother taught him these three lessons and he is till now following them:
- Never go greedy
- Whatever you earn, donate 1/10 of its part to the needy
- If you work for the good of a living soul every day, you will stay happy for the lifetime.
A big salute to Mr 'Paalam' Kalyana Sundaram!
Only unconditional love gives you a true purposeful happiness in life.
