Few days back I woke up late and missed my office cab, intentionally.
Yes, because last night I slept late as Vibhu was in mood of playing with us (me
and my husband). So I decided to go office by Metro (God bless Delhi Metro).
There is no direct transport available to my office, which is in Noida (NCR),
so I normally go till last Metro stop and then take auto for reaching office.
As usual I boarded Metro from my place, reached to my final stop and was going
down towards auto stand. In every Metro station here in Delhi you can see small
kids askers. They approach you for some distance and keep on asking for
something to eat. I don't want to call them vagrant/beggar as they are not yet
mature to understand what it means. These poor kids only need your attention and
something to eat.
Moving forward to auto stand, I saw one 4 -5 years old girl
sitting at staircases with a boy hardly 2 years old in her lap. She was asking
every one passing from there to give food or anything. I generally take fruits
with me so that if I feel like eating in office, I can avoid junk food and have
some healthy item. So, that day I was having two bananas with me. I thought I
can give this to the little girl and gave one banana to her. In response, she
gave me a smile and showed banana to the baby in her lap. I gave the second
banana to the baby and then I saw his face. He was looking very cute and I
couldn't stop myself to show my affection for him and I touched his cheeks. As
he didn't recognize me so like any other child, he didn't react. I was getting
late for office so I rushed to catch auto. After sitting inside auto,
inquisitively I turned back so that I can see what those two little ones are
doing now. And then what happened made me cry almost. The little girl noticed
that I am looking over them. She quickly took the baby and started coming down
from stairs. She was smiling and I saw her face full of acknowledgment. She
stood near my auto ( not close actually) and made baby look at me by pointing
her finger. Baby also smiled at me and I felt happy. Then she said something to
the baby and they both started waving for me. I was touched actually. I was
able to sense their positive vibes. Until they could see my auto going, they
kept on giving me wave.
Throughout the way, I was thinking about them only. My throat
was choked. I have only given them two bananas but in response they showed me
immense love. Kids are always like this innocent, sweet and pure but
circumstances change them. Kids from families like us have option of
liking/disliking. They eat what they like, they generally get toys they like,
good cloths, healthy living and every pleasure we can give them. But there are
kids who are not lucky enough to get all this. They struggle every day for food
and live miserable life. I have decided to teach my son, whenever he'll be able
to understand it, that he should be thankful to God to give him enough food,
place to stay and cloths to wear. He should respect every small thing which he
is getting and should help others in whatever way he can.
Very touching and nicely written
